DESCRIPTION
The project includes the construction of a 10-storey laboratory building providing 10 storeys of laboratory space, a 1-storey basement and a reinforced concrete link bridge connecting to the existing Building 12W. The total gross floor area is 13,100 square metres.

This award-winning project is Hong Kong’s first laboratory building to boast a high-performance precast façade, enabling swift, high-quality construction with minimal impact on the Hong Kong Science Park campus. Merging innovation with environmental stewardship, the project showcases key sustainable features, including:
- Thoughtfully designed window shapes and sizes with a bird-friendly approach, incorporating shading elements to minimise the visual expanses of glazing;
- Over 20% of the site dedicated to native species greenery;
- Compact and flexible 3.3-metre laboratory module interiors for experiments and break-out spaces for wellness and collaboration;
- The window-to-wall ratio in the 5.1-metre floor-to-floor head height space (BSL-3 standard) for scientific research activities;
- Utilisation of recycled materials, such as 40% ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) cement replacement in prefabricated building façades, and more than 90% recycled aggregate materials in lift lobbies;
- Climate-responsive design placed on windows and external shading to optimise daylight access while reducing solar heat gain;
- Motion sensors and wall-mounted dual-lighting level buttons to minimise lighting during idle periods.

The project has been awarded the Final Platinum rating under the BEAM Plus New Buildings Version 2.0 by the Hong Kong Green Building Council.
