In Hong Kong, the adoption of automation and robotics are in great demand by the construction industry due to a certain number of issues
such as labor shortage, demographic changes, and the urge of increasing construction efficiency. The technologies are made available
with higher flexibility and capability yet lower cost, hence are being widely used in many areas. Procedures like concrete appliance,
climbing formwork, interior wall treatments, and logistics supply can now be automated or handled by robots.
Such technologies have
been implemented by Hanison as well for not only quality assurance and process standardization, but also enhanced occupational safety
and health.
CASE STUDY
Virtual Reality (VR)
To minimise the safety hazards, robotic lift car bracket installation technology has been initiated by Hip Hing and jointly developed with
its strategic partners. The laser scanning of the works area, navigation and positioning of drilling, holes clearance, handling and fixing
of brackets are fully automated to eliminate the safety risks for workers. This robotic development has received support from the Construction
Industry Council R&D Fund.
Automatic Robot
Construction activities in the lift shaft, such as grinding of step joints, chiseling the bulging surface and filling up tie bolt
holes of the lift shaft walls as well as the subsequent installation of lift car brackets, involve the risks of work at height and
falling objects if carried out manually.
